Tess Clark, Registered Manager

‘The Beeches has been an independent family-run company from day one when my parents Maurice and Kathleen Barrett, having moved from Whitstable in Kent, took over the Beeches Residential Home in Malmesbury, Wiltshire in 1987 which they would go on to run for nearly 10 years.

Along with my sister Jane, I would often help with the day to day running of the home and it was here where we learnt the fundamentals of good care from Mum. Her exacting standards mixed with great humour and a personal touch was inspirational in drawing us to the care industry. The Beeches was a small 10 bed home and Maurice and Kathleen would ensure that all residents not only were well looked after but were treated as extended members of our family, so it was with this ethos that Jane and I set up the Beeches Homecare Services from an office in the attic in 1994.

“Our family care because your family matter.”

There was a demand at the time for support services in the home and we felt that we had learnt what good care looked like and were confident in delivering the same quality of care that was seen in the home to people in the community. So we began…

We moved out of the attic some time ago and today we occupy office premises in Malmesbury. We remain family run, and along with my brother and sister in law, Francis and Catherine, still run the day to day operations whilst our brother Peter heads up the training department after a 30-year career as a teacher adding a wealth of skills to our growing training facility.

With the opening of the Beeches Homecare Kent a third generation will enter the business with my son and daughter in law, Jacob and Helen, running the Whitstable branch. By remaining a family run company, we are able to more effectively make decisions that put our clients and staff first and provide a level of care that we are proud of.’
